Suplementos nutricionais na indústria de fitness

Resumo

Nas últimas décadas, a indústria do fitness teve um crescimento exponencial, em parte devido ao fato de os atletas, no campo recreativo ou profissional, buscarem uma melhoria no desempenho, usando vários suplementos nutricionais ou auxiliares ergogênicos. No entanto, nem todas as substâncias oferecidas pelo mercado têm evidências científicas que apoiam sua eficácia e, ao contrário, podem colocar em risco a saúde. Isso significa que os profissionais de saúde, com contato com o mundo do fitness, têm uma grande responsabilidade na recomendação de substâncias eficazes e seguras, principalmente com o aumento da prevalência do uso, dessas substâncias entre os atletas. Por essa razão, o conselho de um profissional da área de saúde e desporto é recomendado para garantir que o uso de auxílios ergogênicos seja eficaz, para melhorar o desempenho, e a saúde dentro dos parâmetros permitidos pela WADA – Agencia Mundial Antidoping (se necessário). Este artigo revisa as principais substâncias que atendem a esses critérios, sintetizando brevemente o mecanismo de ação, os efeitos sobre o desempenho, as doses recomendadas e efeitos adversos associados ao seu consumo
