El papel de los ácidos grasos omega 3 en el manejo de enfermedades de tipo intestinal: Revisión narrativa

Resumen

Existen diversas enfermedades de tipo intestinal que afectan a un gran número de pacientes cada año a nivel mundial, por lo tanto, establecer directrices nutricionales para brindar una mejor calidad de vida es una necesidad actualmente.

Los omega 3 son ácidos grasos poliinsaturados que en los últimos años se han relacionado positivamente en múltiples enfermedades debido a su función antiinflamatoria que se lleva a cabo por sus mediadores especializados pro resolutivos.

El objetivo de esta revisión narrativa es recolectar la evidencia sobre el papel que tienen los omega 3 en algunas enfermedades de tipo intestinal para la toma de decisiones basadas en evidencia y brindar recomendaciones respecto a su uso.

La búsqueda de información se realizó en bases de datos de la literatura científica en inglés y español (Elsevier, DOAJ, PubMed, Springer Link, Medline), utilizando los términos MeSH ( Medical Subject Headings): “Fatty acids”, “omega 3”, “fish oil”, “ulcerative colitis”, “docosahexaenoico acid”, “colitis”, “inflammatory bowel disease”, “bowel”.

El papel de los omega 3 en las enfermedades de tipo intestinal sigue sin ser clara; se requieren mayores estudios para determinar dosis y temporalidad, así como desenlaces relacionados al uso de esta sustancia en estas enfermedades.
