Las evidencias científicas son contundentes en mostrar que la inactividad física y el comportamiento sedentario tienen efectos perjudiciales en el músculo esquelético, las arterias, el miocardio y las mitocondrias, lo que aumenta el riesgo de enfermedades cardiovasculares, metabólicas, cáncer y, por tanto, la mortalidad prematura. El objetivo de esta revisión es describir los mecanismos fisiológicos de las miocinas liberadas por la contracción del músculo esquelético con el ejercicio físico y la aplicación clínica en la salud y enfermedad de niños y adultos.
